🎯 Premier League Darts Overview
The Premier League Darts is one of the biggest and most-watched tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
It’s a season-long competition that runs from February to May, touring major arenas across the UK, Ireland, and continental Europe — and culminating in the Play-Off Finals at The O2 Arena in London.
đź“… Premier League Darts Format & Structure
1. The Line-Up
-
The league features 8 of the world’s best players, selected by the PDC (not via open qualification).
-
Typically includes reigning world champion, major tournament winners, and top-ranked global players.
-
Wildcard or “Contender” selections occasionally feature — often rising stars or fan favourites.
2. Tournament Format (Current since 2022)
In 2022, the PDC revamped the format from a long league table to a nightly knockout system:
-
Each of the 16 league nights features a mini four-round knockout:
-
Quarter-finals (best of 11 legs)
-
Semi-finals (best of 11 legs)
-
Final (best of 11 legs)
-
-
The winner of each nightly tournament gets 5 league points, runner-up 3 points, semi-finalists 2 points.
-
Players accumulate points across all nights.
3. Play-Offs
-
After 16 league nights, the top 4 players in the standings qualify for the Play-Offs (semi-finals and final) held at The O2 Arena, London.
-
The champion of the Play-Offs becomes the Premier League Champion.
